We do not hold auditions, we welcome people of all ages*
and there is no need to read music. All you need is enthusiasm and a love of music.
* Anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult singer who is responsible for them.

The choir was originally established in 2007 and led by Liz Nicholas until 2025, when we welcomed our new Musical Director Rob Stonewood. Read more about Rob here A Very Belated Goodbye & a Welcome!

We sing a cappella, without a piano or a backing track, and our repertoire ranges from mediaeval Latin chants to 21st-century pop. We sing in languages from all over the world, too.

We do perform, although our main aim is to sing for our own pleasure. Our original guideline was that we would sing anywhere within walking distance where there was a possibility of cake being served. In the past few years, though, we’ve been going a bit further afield – Hebden Bridge, Whitby, Leicester, Bradford and Manchester (and nobody walked there.) We like to sing in our local community though, and in support of events we care about.

If you decide to become a regular member, we ask for a small membership fee and a weekly fee per session. We do not want fees to be a barrier to participation but we do have to meet the cost of hiring our space at The Church of the Nazarene and paying our Musical Director. The fees are therefore on a sliding scale; please click here for more detail.

Welcome to the Carfield Community Choir website. We are a friendly local choir based in Meersbrook, in south-west Sheffield. We meet on a Monday evening at the Church of the Nazarene in Heeley. We welcome newcomers all year round, whether you’re brand new to singing in harmony or an experienced singer.
